Russet Apples - 1 kg

Known for not only their fresh fruit, but even more so their fruit juices, Ringden has been tending their fruit trees since the late 1940s.

Sweet with a nutty scent, modern apple breeders these days have shied away from heavily russeted cultivars despite the thicker skin actually helping russets to resist the likes of insect damage or mildew.

Fun fact: Russet apples were once referred to as "leathercoats", with the name even being found in the works of Shakespeare.

This variety would be great baked into any manner of autumnal cakes.

About our Fruit & Veg

Sam Best and Harry Dyer

In the four short years since launching Shrub, Sam Best and Harry Dyer have unearthed a new optimism for Britain’s small-scale fruit and veg growers. While most farmers suffer the permanent pressure of supermarket buying tactics, Shrub’s operation has enabled their 50 strong network of farms to sell direct to hundreds of restaurants across the South East - with both sides of their market growing month on month. With an unwavering commitment to the absolute traceability of every single item they market, Shrub’s growth has no doubt been propelled by the exposure they provide to the incredible quality produce we have in the UK. That, alongside the ability to show the methods of farming that their growers adopt - all in an attempt to strengthen, not deplete, soil health. In the absence of their system, most growers would toil to sell locally. Now you can help to accelerate this impact from your own home - one delicious dish at a time.
